Run COMSOL - 2D - Beam (beam) - Add - Study

General Studies - Stationary - Done

 

Set Unit System : None

 

Right-click the Geometry - More Primitives - Polygon

Start point : (0, 0)

End point : (120, 0)

 

Linear Elastic Material

Young's modulus : 29e6

∵29e3 ksi = 29e6 psi = 29e6 lb/in^2

Poisson's ratio : 0

Density : 0 

 

Cross-Section Data

Area : 8.84

Moment of inertia about local z-axis : 170

 

define the constraints

right-click the Beam - Fixed Constraint - select the left node

right-click the Beam - Point Load - select the right node

Force : -4.5e3

 

create Mesh

Mesh - Build All

 

Study - Compute

 

von Mises stress

 

Right-click the Results - 2D Plot Group - Line - Plot

DIsplacement

 

Maximum Displacement : 0.52576

Analytical solution : 0.5258

 

Results of COMSOL and the analytical solution are the same
